California May Become First to Create Farmworker Overtime Legislation
A bill approved by the legislature was sent to Democratic Governor Jerry Brown to approve the requirement of farmers to pay overtime to field workers and fruit pickers according to Reuters. Once approved the bill would gradually phase in overtime pay for farmworkers starting in 2019 to 2022, with smaller farms employing less than 25 workers would have an additional three years to begin payments.
